Honey and Ginger Soap-Tutorial

So tonight I was making soap, and i decided to try a new combination.  I love the scent and the fact that its soft!  I'm sorry the pic is terrible, but here's what you'll need to make it:

1 c Glycerin (i used the melt and pour kind)
2 tsp Honey
2-3 pinches Ginger
1/4 c Shea butter

I used Glycerin that I had ordered online, You can buy it in the hobby section at most craft stores.  I've seen it at Hobby Lobby and at Micheal's before.  Cut off a big chunk of the glycerin, and a small chunk of the Shea Butter and melt it in the microwave in 30 second intervals, unless the packaging states otherwise.  I use a plastic cup, i just wash it and reuse it every time i make soap.  (I usually melt them in 2 different cups, follow package directions)

After the soap is melted fully, Stir it around.  Add in honey and stir until its an off white/tan color.  I like mine to be slightly tan, If its not reaching that color, you may need to add a little more honey.

once the honey is stirred in, add a few pinches of ginger and mix it in.  I like to also add half a pinch to the mold i'm pouring the soap into, just bc it makes the soap look prettier ;p

Pour into mold, and let cool.  Depending on mold size and depth, cooling times vary.  I usually wait 30 minutes.  Pop it out of the mold and enjoy!  I wrap mine in plastic wrap until i'm ready to use them, after ive used it once though i typically leave it out in the shower or by the sink!

I've found that soap using fresher ingredients (such as the honey) lasts 3-4 weeks before losing any color or scent.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial.  Here's a pic of what I made tonight.  I used this recipe for 2 of the bars.  The other bars in the picture are thyme, basil, and mint.

If you make it, Be sure to let me know how you like it!

A peek inside my craft room

Here's a few images of the space i create in.  When my boyfriend and I were deciding on a place to live, my only demand was that i get a craft room!  so now i have one.  And i will say that it is FULL of craft supplies.. I wouldnt have it any other way!  Here's the pics...

This is my work table when i have all my beads out.  Sometimes i work like this, most of the times i dont!  This day was a busy day.  But thats probably about 2/3rds of my beads.  I have a bit of an obsession with craft supplies ;p

This is my display area.  I keep a list of supplies i need, or websites i should visit, reminders of emails to send or packages to ship etc.  I also display new projects here for inspiration on what to do next.
theres a bit of everything i love in the display section.  Hello kitty, legos, girly stuff, vintage things.  below that is a shelf that i keep alot of my tools on.  dremel, wood burner, staple gun, hammer, hole punches, glazes etc.
these are all my jars, they house buttons, findings, keys, corks, bottle caps, and probably everything and anything in between.
More boxes for organization. mannequin heads, etc.
 Hello kitty wall :)
reupholstered chair that my cats decided to pull apart ;p, its their chair so i'm okay with it.  domo and goomba hiding in the back ground.  Thats where i store all my craft books and magazines, patterns and stuff is also there.

And my obsession with hello kitty.  I can't help it!

That was about half my craft room, the other side is boring.  My computer desk, filing cabinet, memo board, and fabric stash.  Maybe when its prettier i'll show pics of it! but for now, its just a peek inside to see what inspires me! :)

Things i'm working on.

So I have been busy busy busy as my last 3 posts have explained. haha.  I am currently working on more recycled items for my jewelry.  I cant wait to have enough to start selling them as well.  Here's a sneak peak at some new items i'll be listing in my etsy shop soon!.  and a better look at my packaging!

This first one is a wine cork, recycled and made into a pendant.  I made this one for myself, K for Kecia :)
I love the style though, and I will definitely be making more of these.

We're currently working on our blog layout, so bare with us while it goes from pretty to ugly, to prettty again!

Hope everyone is having a fabulous day!

Busy Busy Busy!

I've been so busy lately with work and everything.  I really wish I could blog more.  Today I had a meeting with Teena at JavaJourney in Hickory, NC.  After some discussion and contracts, my jewelry will now be sold in her shop!  It's a great organization, a nonprofit coffee shop dedicated to making the community a better place!  I'm so excited to be working with her, and having my jewelry in another store.  We updated our packaging here at Poxie, and I'm very excited about the new look.  Sorry about the poor picture quality, I'll try to get some better pictures sometime this week.  These were taken with my cell phone.  I was in a rush.  So here is the new packaging we have made for Poxie Jewelry.

Thanks for taking a look.  I hope everyone has a terrific weekend.  And I cant wait to have more time to dedicate to this blog! ;p
